That looks great!

Where did you do the laser-cutting?
Did you find the stars came out better or worse than hand-cutting?

Great post! I usually call this design a “nautical star”, and Unicode calls it a “pinwheel star”, but I admit that I like the idea of naming things after Page too. I've never really compared the variations in design between different type manufacturers. Looking that closely definitely makes you appreciate the more elaborate stars that Page showed in his big 1874 chromatic book – for example, this giant nautical “Chromatic Double Star”:
http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4003/4295671177_e40ba27c7c_b.jpg
and this crazy stars-&-stripes-themed “National Border”:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5138/5535963547_1af6d6a4e0_b.jpg
(I think this latter one must have been die-stamped. I can't imagine all of those angles were hand-trimmed.)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing more Moore type. Keep up the good work!

Hi,

my name is Kim, I am a designer and printer who is currently looking into making wood-type for personal projects, using CNC milling. I have been reading your blog posts for a while and your trials and process have been a great inspiration.

I was wondering what types of mills your use and whether you finish the details by hand? I am fairly new to woodworking and while I am looking forward to trial and failure, the learning process being as much a motivator as money saved on eBay, I figured that asking someone with this specific expertise could save me some heartbreak.

Regards,
Kim

Hello Scott,
I'm very glad to see the store added to your site. I'm really excited to try out some of your catch words. I've started with just a handfull, but my inclination is to buy them in every size!

Keep the new designs coming!

Hi,

I heard about you through Don Black. He talked about you and your daughter when we visited them in FL so I looked you up finally.

It's amazing what you are trying to accomplish! I know of others creating wood type but I think you are the only one trying to do the whole process from log to finished type.

I'm eagerly awaiting your next posting.
